tdr0538_How come the damage was small at Tokyo Disney Resort?

Greatest earthquake ever recorded in Japan, which was magnitude 9 was occurred on March 11th 2011 at 2:46pm.

This “Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake” also left the scar like ground liquefaction to Urayasu City of Chiba Prefecture where Tokyo Disney Resort is.

While many damages occur like houses leans over or roads get cracked somehow Tokyo Disney Resort only had damage of liquefaction of certain park of parking.

There wasn’t any big damage with attraction or buildings that it was minimum.

Even it is same Urayasu City of Chiba Prefecture isn’t it weird?

Also, the place where Tokyo Disney Resort used to be the sea, so it is reclaimed land. When it is the usual reclaimed land the damage should be bigger.

So, why Tokyo Disney Resort’s damage only occurred minimum?

Actually, soil stabilization construction occurred in advance of construction of Tokyo Disneyland.

As I have explained above reclaimed land’s foundation is weak, so huge damage occur when earthquake happens. The soil improvement technology, which called “Sand Compaction Pile method” was occurred by considering about that.

To explain this SCP method roughly it is to improve and strength the ground by developing strongly compacted sand compaction pile (sand column) inside the ground.

At that time construction at 32.80 feet to 49.21 feet deep from the surface of ground was occurred.

Because Tokyo Disney Resort estimated the disaster and did something about it before hand the damage was only occurred minimum.
