【tdr0007】Tokyo Disneyland and Michael Jackson

As you know, Michael Jackson is a world-famous superstar, known as the “King of Pop” or the “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time”. Now, let’s look back on the day when the superstar visited Tokyo Disneyland.

On September 29, 1987, Michael Jackson came to Japan to visit Tokyo Disneyland to watch the 3-D film “Captain EO” which he starred in. (The attraction “Captain EO” was open from March 20, 1987 to September 1, 1996. The story is about the Captain EO and his crew, who arrived in a colorless planet, fighting the Dark Queen by singing and dancing.)

However, Michael Jackson was so popular that his scheduled visit to Japan had spread as a rumor before the visit. It could be easily imagined that his appearance in Tokyo Disneyland would throw people into a panic. To avoid such situation, the Oriental Land made a bold decision to have Tokyo Disneyland reserved only for him.

This shows that he really was a “King of Pop”; he even had Tokyo Disneyland to be reserved by an individual, not a group. He had such a great influence on people.

His influence was so strong that after he passed away on June 25, 2009, the attraction “Captain EO” was revived on July 1, 2010, for the first time in around 14 years. Although the five-year revival was closed at the end of June 2014, the fact that it was desired by people even after his death undoubtedly shows he was an influential superstar.
